Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. First Edition. A Steadman / Hunter S. Thompson collaboration, inscribed by Thompson. Steadman made this collection of drawings during his peak period of visual commentary on American scenes and cultures. These are both published and previously unpublished works from his Rolling Stone assignments with Hunter S. Thompson (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas; Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail, etc), as well as works commissioned on Disneyland, the Kentucky Derby, Dallas, Miami, etc. The introduction is an interview between the editor of the book and Hunter S. Thompson, with whom Steadman collaborated on the books Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72. Unpaginated, but about 176 pages. 9-1/8 by 12-1/4 inches. First edition (first printing). A very good copy in a very good dust jacket. Signed "HST" and "Hunter" by Thompson, and dated 10/12/79 on the introduction. This copy with a previous owner's bookplate and blindstamp on the front endpapers. The jacket has several tears, a missing a chip from one corner, and a couple of old tape repairs on the back (verso) at the top of the spine. Not the greatest copy, but for some reason this book doesn't turn up often in nicer shape, let alone signed by Hunter S. Thompson.

Hardcover. Condition: Very good. First Edition. The original publication of Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, with Steadman's illustrations bleeding over massive tabloid newspaper pages. Two long excerpts from Thompson's drug-fueled memoir of a trip to Las Vegas in the company of the Chicano lawyer Oscar Zeta Acosta (fictionalized as "the Samoan") first appeared in the November 11 and November 25, 1971 issues of Rolling Stone. This association between writer and magazine was one of the greatest in the history of periodicals. HST's next book, Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail, starts in this bound volume, with four installments of this volume, beginning with the January 6, 1972 issue. This is the seventh set of fifteen issues, which were offered by Rolling Stone in oversized hardcover volumes. The pages document the musical and cultural icons of the era. According to the printed information found at the front of this volume, "This collection.was bound by the Cardoza-James Bindery in San Francisco. They were printed by the Garrett Press of San Francisco. The paper is 25-pound publication newsprint stock, with the exceptions of the outside and inside sheets which are a 45-pound Mustang book stock. The type face of the body text is eight-point Times Roman, and the headline face is 18- and 24-point Times Roman." Oh, to be young again and able to read 8-point type with ease! This volume appears to have been made from unsold copies of the tabloid magazine, flattened, with slight evidence of the original center folds. 1008 pages. Issues 91 to 105. 11 by 16-3/4 inches. First edition, bound. The issues themselves are tanned, as usual, because of the newsprint paper they are printed on, but they are otherwise very good. The binding is very good, with a light surface scuffing on the front cover. This copy has a short essay by Ben Fong-Torres about Hunter S. Thompson (reprinted from Not Fade Away) with an original introduction by Fong-Torres, printed on original Rolling Stone letterhead, and signed by Fong-Torres especially for insertion in this volume.

Near good signed example of this uniquely signed rarity. Hunter Thompson, the king of Gonzo returns in The Curse of LONO when a seemingly absurd assignment is proposed by 'Running' magazine to cover the Honolulu Marathon. A hilarious, brain-curdling south Sea adventure ensues, the story of HST's epic escapades in Hawai'i. Weird tales from a Weird World by the quintessential outlaw journalist and best-selling author. The Curse of Lono is to Hawaii what Fear and Loathing was to Las Vegas: the crazy tales of a journalist's 'coverage' of a news event that ends up being a wild ride to the dark side of Americana. Originally published in 1983, Curse features all of the zany, hallucinogenic wordplay and feral artwork for which the Hunter S. Thompson and Ralph Steadman duo have become known and loved. This curious book featuring marathon reportage and big game fishing, is considered rather an oddity among Hunter's oeuvre. Includes vignettes by such icons as Mark Twain, Rudyard Kipling, and Ralph Emerson along with Steadman's slight doctoring of several more classical illustrations. 160 pages. Insured post. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Signed by Author.
