Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Included. Michael Kennard (illustrator). Later Printing -. Stated on Copyright Page: First Published in Great Britain 1949 - This edition published by: Book Club Associates and John Player and Sons 1975. - NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR: One of the major highlights and prophetic writings of the twentieth century. Orwell began writing Nineteen Eighty-Four in 1945, knowing that he would need to change publisher in order to see it in print. As he had found with Animal Farm Orwells novels were now opposed to Gollanczs political principles, and so it was the firm of Secker & Warburg (also the publishers of Animal Farm) who took on the book. The book was due to be finished in early 1948, though when the time came Orwell told his publishers "It is just a ghastly mess as it stands, but the idea is so good that I could not possibly abandon it." It was published in June 1949 and by October had sold over 22,000 copies. Now, today, published yet again by The John Player Special Collection. - Such phrases as Double Think, Newspeak and Big Brother coined in the book have since become common parlance and the novel a cornerstone of dystopian literature. - Condition: This is a bespoke facsimile dustjacket in a superb condition. It was created from a First Edition - First Printing, designed by Michael Kennard. - The dustjacket is printed on acid free paper and enclosed in a durable plastic archival sleeve for longevity and future protection. - I do not state on the dustjacket that it is a facsimile, nor do I put my business name on them. - This facsimile dust-jackets is a true representation of the original without modification. - Black Cloth boards with gilt gold lettering to the spine.
